Almanor Lake Fish Report

A few cooler days this week have knocked surface temperatures down to 67 degrees.
Water Clarity is great, about 13.5 feet and lake levels continue to hold.
Insect hatch continue to amaze and pond smelt are everywhere.
The Hex hatch is going off like hand grenades..lots of little explosions around west shore to the Fox Farm. Perhaps the big bang will go off after it warms up again, or not, it could continue like this all summer.
With all that fish food around, and coupled with a full moon this week, the bite has been tough. That full moon allows fish 24 hours of feeding.
Fish we have checked are packed with insects, and now smelt are in the mix.
The guys that stick it out longer are getting fish.
We worked it hard the past week, along with other savvy fisherman, popping off some nice fish once in a while. Like yesterday when we caught a big brown measuring 28 inches long and a 18.5 inch girth. 13.2 lbs. was the weight, but the scale used to weigh this fish is questionable, anyway the guys on my boat were stoked! Cograulations Darrell of Turlock Ca. and Rob from Richmond, Va.
This year, we have caught several larger Browns trolling Seps "Strike Master" dodgers, in Silver and the 50/50 silver and gold, with a threaded crawler 18" back. I also have been using 2 scents, Pro-Cure Trophy Trout, and Bang Aerosol in Garlic..both have been effective...Big browns dig garlic...
The lake is so full that the thermocline appears to big rather wide, fish have been coming from 15 ft. too 40 ft. down, and most of my time is spent at the 25 ft. level.
