The algae has been on the lake for a couple of weeks now, which is starting to force the fish to find the clear cool water. McGee Bay out in 15 feet of water has been producing several nice fish. The other hot spot has been Alligator Point out in 25 to 30 feet of water. Check out all of the river mouths, Little Hilton, the Owens, and Crooked Creek in addition to McGee. The standard inflated night crawler has been the bait of choice followed by the brighter colors of Power Bait. Fly fishing has been on the slow side this past week but there are some nice fish starting to move into the river mouth of McGee Bay. If we get a good breeze out of the north or west at night, McGee will be clear of algae. If not, you probably wont be able to fish through the green. There are a few good reports from the north arm in the area of the old North Landing. The perch are still holding on the edges of the weed beds. The cool water from the snow melt has delayed their annual spawn a little bit. The water has come up quite a bit, so there is now seven to eight feet of water on the inside edges of the weed beds. In the years when this happens, you can catch perch all the way from the sage brush out to the shallow edges of the weed beds. 1/32 and 1/16 oz lead-head jigs with a power grub and a crappie nibble is the best way to get them.
