Cooler weather, a full moon and heavy winds have put off the bite a bit. Trolling is fair to good at Miners Bay, Shrimp Island and Wildcat Point. Anglers are catching fish from the surface down to 30 feet on Sep's #2 watermelon and brown grubs. Night crawlers are a good bet too for trolling. A good number of fish have migrated northward. We have been catching them in shallow water all the way north to Pelican Point. This is not a red hot bite, but we have been scratching out limits. We were trolling the grubs mentioned above at six feet deep in water eight- to 15-feet deep. We had fish to two pounds, 14-ounces with the average fish 2-1/4 pounds. I expect this fishing to get better and the size of the fish to increase.
Bobber fishing, like trolling had been very consistent. However, like the trolling, it slowed down. With the weather warming back up, it could turn back on. The bobber fishermen have to follow the fish like the trollers, so it might be to move to shallower water. Up until this past week, bobber fishermen were finding consistent fishing anchoring in 50 to 60 feet of water off Miners Bay and setting their threaded night crawlers at 25 to 30 feet deep. tnoxon@gmail.com www.fishtraveler.com; (530) 825-3454
