Trout fishing is excellent on the upper Yuba. There is great dry fly action from noon to dusk with trout feeding on caddis, skwalas, march browns and PMD’s. Best action is from 11am on when the highest quantity of hatches bringing fish to the surface. The skwala hatch is coming to an end, but as they deposit eggs on the water they are super susceptible to getting eaten by a trout over 20”. Tip: Birds are a great indication of where hatches are concentrating. Look for the birds. Swinging soft hackles in riffles, a dry with a caddis pupa or PMD dropper and stripping streamers in tailouts and pools are also great tactics this time of year. Good wade access above Hwy 20 bridge.
