Prattville to the USFS ramp has large concentrations of fish from 20 feet down to 42 feet. That entire area is loaded with much smaller schools of baitfish headed west, with scores of browns and rainbows following them around, and pushing then closer toward the Almanor West boat ramp.
Cooler surface temps will allow fish back into these shallow areas, which are now ideal as long as the wind stays in the “breeze only” mode.
The best trolling speeds are 2 to 3 mph and best depths have been at 25 to 45 feet. Fish are closer to the surface in the morning.
The Hamilton Branch to Big Springs is still good for a few big fish every day. The power house is running again. Rainbows are in the Ham Branch and that’s a very good place for a guy walking the shoreline. Doug Neal: (530) 258-6732 http://www.almanorfishingadventures.com
