The hex hatch hasn’t broken loose but some males have been seen and that’s the leading edge of the hatch. Surface temperatures remain cool and traditional patterns have been delayed by the late spring. Trout are eating bugs off the bottom. Fish remain scattered but the bite has started to pick up, especially in the Almanor West area where the Feather River enters the lake. The salmon bite slowed because of pollen on the water. The smallmouth bass bite has been very good at Rocky Point, north shore campgrounds and catfish beach. Use sinking line with wooly buggers for bass to three pounds. Baitcasters can use plastics and plugs. (530) 258-6732; (530) 283-2733
