The Lake has been very quiet this week, climbing temperatures have kept all but the truly devoted at home. I didn’t see a single bank fisherman this morning anywhere in the Recreation area. The few that did show this week worked the banks opposite the EBMUD boathouse and also Rainbow and Blue Herron Points. The anglers working the banks are using Power Bait (eggs or worms) with garlic and glitter. Pistol Pete’s and Mouse (mice) Tails, in addition pink Power Worms and night crawlers on a water bobber have been successful lately.
Trollers continue to concentrate in the South end of the Lake adjacent to the intake tower and the River Mouth. The information is that Kokanee have been plentiful, most if not all in the 10 to12 inch range. The fish are still hanging out in the 40 to 60 foot range. Baits and lures are unchanged, the winning combos have been beaded spoon type spinners in red, pink and rainbow and Apex lures with night crawlers or scented corn behind medium flashers or medium size dodgers in red, blue, and chrome. Check at the Marina for all your fishing supplies, snacks, updated fishing information and hot spots.
Look for catfish in the River arm and the southern coves, sounds like they have begun to move into the coves that are warming up from Mel’s cove to Rattlesnake. Chicken livers Power Bait and night crawlers are the baits of choice.
Water level has remained about the same since last report and is now about 8-10 feet below the spillway and is inching upward. Water temperatures are still in the mid 60’s at the Marina this morning but will warm with the century mark temps arriving this weekend. Water clarity is good to about 15’ plus in the Marina.
