The bite by rainbow trout, king salmon and kokanee is is very good and getting better. Eleven year-old Michael Vtorskin from Pacifica landed his first ever king salmon last week with the help of guide Danny Layne. It was a beautiful 18-inch, three pound buck, also getting in on the action was his father Tony and nine rear old sister Maria. Not to be outdone San Jose residents Chris Hobson, Chris Bronis and Dave McClung took early morning limits on kings, kokes and bows on Friday. Good numbers of fish area holding off Jenkins Hill, Big Oak Island and the open water of Fleming Bay. For the scrappy bows work the top water column down to 15 feet with flasher/night crawler combos or Uncle Larry’s spinners. Kokanee are showing in Fleming Bay from 25 to 55 feet. Spinners, wiggle hoochies or the new Kokanee Khaos are working well fished behind either a Shasta Sling blade or a Vance’s dodger scented with Pautzke’s fire corn in the color pink. For the kings work depths from 40- to 95-feet should put you in range of the hard fighting fish. Anchovies or thread-fin shad cured in Pautzke’s new Fire Brine cure have been working well for kings to three pounds. Danny Layne (209) 586-2383, Monte Smith (209) 848-2746. Bait Barn (209) 874-3011
