This report came from guide Rick Kennedy of TightLines Guide Service on a trip last weekend: Started off targeting btowns by pulling Rapala’s, Smithwicks, Kazi Minnows and everything else we could find in the tackle box. Finally, about 9:30 we slowed things down and switched over to Pro Troll Sting Fish Lures. We ran one on the surface, one 15’ and one at 20’ down on the downriggers. Within 20 minutes we were hooked up and landed a 10 lb Mackinaw on the rod that was 20’. It wasn’t long before the rod on the surface was singing, we landed a 3.5 pound Mack on that rod. Finally things were picking up! The next fish was a nice 13 lb Mack again from the 20’ depth. We no sooner got it back in the water and the final fish we landed was a 8 lb Mack. From that point on things slowed way down. It was a hot bite but only lasted a couple hours. We caught all these fish in 30 to 40 feet of water and pulling Sting Fish at 1.8 mph. The water temp ranged from 36 to 40 degrees depending on where we were on the lake. A friend also landed a couple nice Macks as well. (530) 263-0990
