Winter-like weather has trout on the move. More and more fish are showing up in the middle and north basins. We found fish this week on the west side of Eagle Lake from Slough Point all the way up to Truxel Point. in the north basin. Water temperatures are cooling quickly. The surface temperature in the north basin at Truxel Pt. has already cooled to 50 F. Trollers are finding fish in shallow water (under 10 feet deep) around Pelican Point. Jay Fair Flies and Sep's orange grubs are producing. The water is a little murky so bright colors are best for trolling. The area between the mouth of the north end (Bucks Point/Little Truxel Point) all the way up to Truxel Point is also productive. We are setting our trolled baits between 3-5 feet deep and running them 150 feet behind the boat. Trouth are running between 2.5- to just over 3 pounds and they are fat and healthy. Bobber fishing has been very good on the west side of the lake from Slough Point up to Pelican Point in shallow water. Anglers anchoring up in water 6-10 feet deep and setting their threaded night crawlers 3-4 feet off the bottom are catching fish. Launching is no problem at the Spalding Launch facility. tnoxon@gmail.com www.fishtraveler.com (530) 825-3454
