Shaver Lake Fish Report

Fishing remains slow. With four days of bad weather including snow and wind, few trollers attempted a day on the lake and not too many bank fishermen braved the conditions either. One boat said they had picked up some 2nd year kokanee along with a single rainbow with all being released near the island and Shaver Marina. The second year kokanee are appearing but they are small and should never be taken out of the water. Later in the summer the kokes will have grown some and some will be kept. The weather pattern looks better for this week but it is unknown how many anglers will try the lake especially when fishing is slow.
Troillers are using blade / crawler combinations including Trout Busters with a tip of corn on the first hook and a tip of crawler on the trailing hook. The fish reportedly were caught in the upper 15 feet, with exception of the kokanee which were at 25 feet. But again, no one is catching much. Captain Jack's Super Hoochies with a tip of corn were used with some success for kokanee on a catch and release basis.
Bank fishermen report a fish now and then during their fishing trip, but a trophy shows now and then for some in the right spot. Power Bait or crawlers are best near the dam, Sierra marina and roads 1 and 2.
Fishermen are reminded to check the Sierra marina web cam before heading to Shaver for up to the minute ramp conditions. The lake is approximately 60 % capacity with recent rain water entering the lake.
