Almanor Lake Fish Report

Surface temps have recovered from that last batch of weather that came through last weekend. Still cool enough for fish to remain scattered around both basins, for now.
Guide Doug Neal has been fishing both basins this past week, and both basins have been producing fish. Fishing pressure around Almanor has been generally light, lots of boats around, but they are all scattered around both basins. Best bite has been early. If you're trolling by 5:15 am you're going to do better than the guys who show up after 7:00 am. We got our last bite around 11:00 am.
Trolling has been the ticket. Dodger/crawler combos are getting bigger fish. Chartreuse or 50/50 “Strike Master” dodgers and crawler combos trolled slower @ 1.5 mph, rigged 10 ft. down early morning and deeper, to 16 ft. when the sun gets higher. There's a lot of food available right now, most fish have been feeding mostly on aquatic insects...and less smelt. But still, Fast action lures @ 2.5 mph rigged shallow, to 4. to 6 ft. is still another good way to get hooked up.
