Shoreline fishermen are still catching limits at either the north shore day use or the south shore trout pond. Power Bait, Power Nuggets or eggs are the top picks for bottom fishing with a sliding egg sinker in 15 to 25 feet of water. Many anglers use a nightcrawler-Power Bait combo, as well. 16-year old James Estes caught the big fish of the week – an 8.21 pound rainbow from the south pond. His buddy landed a 5.9 pound rainbow. Both used a crappie jig for bait. Winter bass fishing can be tough. Slow and deep is the rule. Use a purple/brown jig or drop shot a six-inch worm in salt/pepper, purple or brown/green. Fish deep ledges from 30 to 45 feet. Best areas run along the edge of the river channel anywhere from Stump Island to the dam. (209) 763-5915,
